Red Planet develops deaf journalist crime novel series

Rose Ayling-Ellis attached to six-part drama from Death in Paradise indie

Red Planet Pictures is developing a six-part drama based on the Tuva Moodyson mystery novels by Will Dean.

The novels centre around a young deaf journalist in Sweden, with the first book of the series (Dark Pines) being adapted for screen by Without You writer Charlotte Jones.

The adaptation will be set in the remote Scottish wilderness, where Tuva is working on a small-time local paper desperate for a headline-breaking scoop. When a serial killer who has remained dormant for over twenty years begins to kill again in the small community, the journalist finds herself with a front-page story that could make her career, if it doesn’t kill her first.

Deaf actress Rose Ayling-Ellis has also been attached to the project to play the lead role of Tuva, with Ayling-Ellis commenting that the series “is especially exciting for me to bring this to life alongside other deaf characters.”

Currently titled Tuva (w/t), the series is exec-produced by Belinda Campbell and Caroline Skinner for Red Planet Pictures.

The development deal was negotiated for author Will Dean by Conrad Williams at Blake Friedmann Literary Agency. Rose Ayling-Ellis is represented by The Artists Partnership.

Red Planet Pictures is known for being behind Death in Paradise and is also developing projects which include Antony Johnston’s The Exphoria Code and Mike Philips’ novel Blood Rights.
