‘Animalia’ Trailer: Sundance Grand Jury Prize Winner Sofia Alaoui Returns To Fest With Groundbreaking Supernatural Drama
Casablanca-born French-Moroccan filmmaker Sofia Alaoui is one of the Arab world’s hottest rising talents.
The director won Sundance’s Grand Jury Prize for her supernatural short So What If The Goats Die in 2020, which she followed with the fantasy short The Lake for 20thCenturyDIGITAL and Hulu.
The director returns to Sundance with her genre-mixing debut feature Animalia.
Judging by the trailer, unveiled by Paris-based sales company Totem Films on Thursday, the drama promises to break the mold for Arab-language indie cinema, with its mix of a contemporary Moroccan life and supernatural elements.
